Small Things Matter!

Small Things Matter!
Too often, it is easy to focus on the spectacular and the sensational.
Baseball fans long for a “Grand Slam,” football fans pray for a “Hail Mary,” and golf fans hope for a “Hole-In-One.” At the same time, people of faith long for a miracle of healing or pray for the dead to be raised or hope for the dead-end waters to be parted.
However, when we focus too much on the spectacular and the sensational we often miss the small moments of grace and the small touches of love. I don’t doubt that Jesus can act in spectacular ways. But, I also know that Jesus works in small ways.
The good news is that there is nothing too small for God to notice or too big for God to handle. But for some reason, it took me a long time to really trust that Jesus cares about the small things that matter to me.
It took me a while to trust the promises of God in the Bible. In I Peter 5:2 we hear God’s promise about His concern for the small things in our lives. Peter writes; “Cast all your anxiety on him (Jesus), because he cares for you.” Jesus cares about the things upon which your heart and mind are focused right now.
Jesus cares about what is small and seemingly not all that spiritual. Early in his ministry, Jesus attends a wedding reception with his mother. Sometime during the party, it comes to Jesus’ attention that the host of the party has grossly underestimated the crowd. The host runs out of wine long before the party is scheduled to end.
A wine-less wedding reception does not seem like the end of the world. And yet, Jesus cares. Jesus cares about the embarrassment the host is feeling, he cares about the guests having a good time, and he cares about the bride and groom whose marriage is being celebrated. Because Jesus cares about the little details of a wedding reception, Jesus does a miracle to address a small inconvenience. Jesus changes water into wine.
Jesus cares about the small things going on in your life, too. It is often in the small things that I experience the power of Jesus’ love in the most profound ways. So, I cast all my cares…the big ones and the small ones…on Jesus. I give my cares and concerns as well as my anxiety and apprehension to Jesus trusting that He cares about the big things and the small things.
In Ephesians 1:22 we are reminded that Jesus stands above all the things that stands in our way of living a life of love and joy and peace. The Apostle Paul writes; “And he (God) has put all things under his (Jesus’) feet and has made him the head over all things for the church…”
There is nothing in your life…big or small…over which Jesus does not have authority or power. Because Jesus cares about “all things” in your life, Jesus will work in and through the small things and the big things to show you how much He loves you. Jesus works in small ways and in all ways to lead you into a life of holiness. When we know Jesus cares about all the things about which we care, we will take delight in the Lord.
Take Delight In The Lord!
