A Faithful Shield!

A Faithful Shield!
Sometimes things come at me in such a rapid-fire manner that I cannot seem to catch my breath.
There is news of a friend’s death, another slippage in my mother’s health, and the report that parts for our house humidifier have not been available for at least 15 years. Oh boy!
There is a phone call telling me the furniture for which we have been waiting for seven months was damaged in shipment, the loneliness of our family not being together on Christmas day, and a business associate losing his wife very unexpectedly. Oh my!
All these things come together at the same time and leave me feeling sad, disappointed, and even discouraged. Lately, things have been coming at me in such rapid-fire frequency that I cannot seem to catch my breath before the next one comes at me.
All these things begin to feel like attacks; attacks on my joy and my optimism and my patience……and sometimes even on my faith in Jesus. And then, I read Psalm 91.
In Psalm 91:3-4 we hear; “For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence; he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.”
Here is the second attribute of the character of God; the Lord God is my faithful shield!
When the attacks of the enemy come one after another, I can trust the Lord God will be my faithful shield.
The Lord God will deflect the Enemy’s attacks on my health or on the health of someone I love so I am safe and secure.
The Lord God will repel the Enemy’s attacks on my joy, my hope, and my peace so I may continue to love the Lord and love the people around me.
The Lord God will redirect the Enemy’s attacks on my checkbook, on my mental health, and on my spiritual life so I may continue to stand strong and courageous with Jesus.
The Lord God is a faithful shield. Not only will the Lord God deflect and repel and redirect the attacks coming at me, the Lord God will protect the vulnerable, fragile, and weak places in my life.
And, the Lord God is not just a shield. I can trust the Lord God is a “faithful” shield. The Lord will protect me as a shield when I do not know that I need His protection. The Lord will protect me as a shield when I am not sure He will come to me this time.
I imagine you know someone who is powerless or exposed or frail right now. Invite them to coffee and conversation this week. And when the Holy Spirit creates an open space in the conversation, trust the Lord enough to share with your friend how the Lord God is their faithful shield in times of struggle and trouble.
When you and your friend trust in the Lord as your faithful shield, your hearts will fill with delight even when your days are difficult.
Take Delight In The Lord!
