A New Song!

A New Song!
I am writing on Tuesday morning this week.
The Hospice nurses expected my mother to pass some days ago. Being the strong woman that she is, my mother refused to keep to their time-line. She is leaving on her own terms; her own way and her own time!
The blessing is that we have had opportunity to say what we wanted to say and to say what we believed was important to my mother. There has also been more than a few opportunities to read Scripture and pray with my mother.
There have been several times that we have shared the promise of heaven for those who trust in Jesus. We have also shared the promise of joy that will fill her soul when Jesus takes her by the hand into heaven.
We have encouraged my mother to take Jesus’ hand when it is stretched out to her. We have invited my mother to hold onto the hope of being embraced in the arms of Jesus when she enters the gates of heaven. We have reassured my mother it was OK to let go of the here and now so she could know the glory and power and beauty of the Lord God in heaven.
Earlier this morning (Tuesday), I read Psalm 40 to my mother before praying with her. Although the Psalm is very familiar to me, the promise in verse two struck me in a fresh way. Although the Psalm is speaking of our life on earth, I also began to see the Psalm as a promise of what it will be like when we go to heaven.
In Psalm 40:1-3 we hear; “I patiently waited, Lord, for you to hear my prayer. You listened and pulled me from a lonely pit full of mud and mire. You let me stand on a rock with my feet firm, and you gave me a new song, a song of praise to you. Many will see this, and they will honor and trust you, the Lord God.”
The promise of Psalm 40 is Lord will give us “a new song” of praise…a song we will sing to the Lord. Our heart will be filled with praise and worship, with singing and joy, with adoration and gratitude. A new song of praise to the Lord sounds like our experience of heaven.
Our new song in heaven will overfill our heart as we worship the Lord in all His splendor and strength. I am confident that even while my mother is leaving this life, her soul is preparing to sing a new song of praise in heaven.
I know I have prayed over and over for my mother and the rest of our family. We don’t want to lose her, but we pray she would not hopelessly linger in this life. In Psalm 40:17 we hear a simple prayer; “Please hurry and help.”
Lord, please hurry and help! If I am in trouble today, please hurry and help. If my friend is struggling today, please hurry and help. If my life is drawing to a close today, please hurry and help. If my loved are sad or afraid or confused today, please hurry and help.
My heart longs to sing a new song of praise to the Lord today and on the day I enter the kingdom of heaven. When I set my heart free to sing a song of praise to the Lord, my heart will be filled with delight in the Lord.
My prayer is that your heart will be filled with delight in the Lord today as you sing a new song of praise to our Savior, Jesus.
Take Delight In The Lord!
