No Shame In Sharing Jesus!

No Shame In Sharing Jesus!

As we drew closer to Christmas day this year, I noticed something.  There are a lot of families who love to celebrate Christmas as a holiday but are ashamed to celebrate Christmas as the birth of Jesus.

Families may have a nativity scene displayed in their home, but are reluctant to have a prayer during their Christmas dinner to thank the Lord God for the gift of His son.  Other families may have a star on top of their Christmas tree, but are hesitant to share with others the star is a reminder of the birth of God’s son, our Savior.

Too often, we are embarrassed or maybe even ashamed of the Gospel we hear in John 3:16-17.  In those verses Jesus says; “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.  Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

In his letter to the churches in Rome, the Apostle Paul makes it clear that he is not ashamed of the gospel that announces God’s saving power for all people.  In Romans 1:16 Paul writes; “For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is God’s saving power for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”

Christmas is the celebration of God’s saving power made available to every person through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.  Paul reminds us to not be embarrassed or ashamed or hesitant to share God’s saving power in Jesus.

We also hear about God’s saving power in the Psalms.  In Psalm 67:2 we hear; “…that your (the Lord God’s) way may be known upon earth, your saving power among all nations.”  In Psalm 78:22 we hear; “…because they had no faith in God and did not trust his saving power.”

Christmas is the announcement and celebration of God’s saving power in the birth of Jesus.  I encourage you to be a bit more bold and a little less ashamed of our Savior Jesus.  I invite you to be a bit more courageous and a little less embarrassed to share the real meaning of Christmas today.

And, if it has been a little too long since you and Jesus had a chat, take a few moments today to let Jesus fill you up with His saving power, His tender mercy, and His amazing love.  Invite the Savior whose birth we celebrate today to be your Lord and your Savior once again…or for the very first time!

Merry Christmas!

Doug
