Love; Cries And Celebrates!
Love means caring deeply about another person. When they celebrate a victory, we celebrate with them. When their heart is filled with joy, we share in their joy. When they are betrayed, we draw near to be a trusted friend. When they are afraid, we admit we are sometimes afraid. When they weep, we weep with them.
Love means caring enough about the other person that we go through the highs and lows of life with them. We hold their hand when they need someone to hold their hand. We pray for them when they need someone to pray for them. We encourage them, we celebrate with them, we comfort them, we guide them, we challenge them, we cry with them.
As the Apostle Paul describes the marks of being a Christ-follower he describes the love we have for one another. In Romans 12:15 Paul writes; “Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.” Paul tells us that when we live a life of holiness we will grow the kind of love that rejoices when our friend is winning and weep when our friend is experiencing loss.
Jesus lifts up the same value in the “Sermon On The Mount.” In Matthew 5:7 Jesus says; “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.” Love shows mercy to those who need mercy.
Love shows kindness to those who need kindness. In Zechariah 7:9 the Lord God says; “Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another…”
Love cries with those who cry and offers praise with those who are celebrating. Each of us navigate through all kinds of different seasons in our lives. During each of those seasons, we need other Christ-followers to love us enough to walk with us…crying and celebrating, weeping and rejoicing, caring and praising.
If you need someone to walk with you right now, consider joining a small group at a church. Many churches launch short-term small groups during the season we call Lent. Lent begins next week, so it might be a good time for you to join up. From time to time, we all need a group of Christ-followers to walk with us through life.
If you know a person who right now needs someone to walk with them, invite them to coffee this week. Ask if during the next 40 days of Lent you could be the person to walk with them. Meet with them once a week to listen to their story of weeping or rejoicing, pray for them if they are open, and be vulnerable enough to rejoice with the one who is rejoicing and weep with the one who is weeping.
Trust and see what the Lord might do in you and in your friend.
Try out a small group for the next six weeks. Be a friend who loves enough to walk with someone through their highs and lows. As you do, the Holy Spirit will fill your life with even more delight in His goodness and greatness.
Take Delight In The Lord!
