Rescued From Darkness!

It was just another day; I reported to work, I greeted everyone in the office, and I sat down at my desk to set some priority to the day’s tasks. 

It was just another ordinary day; my family was doing well, my health was good, and my work with my colleagues was rewarding.

It was after someone invited me to come into the chapel that I noticed something was not right; i.e., something was very wrong!

There were some people who wanted to visit with me. Actually, they wanted to tell me something. I listened to their accusations and indictments. Although they asked to hear my perspective, they cut me off and refused to listen.

We agreed to call a meeting to work towards resolution. Because of their unwillingness to listen, I was not confident anything would come of yet another conversation. However, I submitted to schedule the meeting.

As everyone began to disperse, one person approached me. They moved too close; i.e., almost in my face! When they spoke, it sounded like something otherworldly; evil, dark, and wicked! There was something in the look of the person’s eyes and in the sound of their voice that was deceitful, destructive, and dreadful.

The power of darkness was using that person to destroy me, diminish me, and disqualify me. I was in the presence of the power of darkness.

The power of darkness is as real and as powerful today as it has ever been. I have seen the power of darkness inhabit a person, an organization, and even a system (i.e., racism, agism, sexism, etc.).

The good news is God the Father has a plan to defeat the power of darkness. The good news is Jesus lived and died and lived again to show us that His power is greater than the power of darkness. The good news is the Holy Spirit will fit us and fill us with all the things we need to resist the attacks of the power of darkness.

In Colossians 1:13-14 Paul writes; “He (God the Father) has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

Our Heavenly Father has “…rescued us from the power of darkness…” He will rescue us from the power of darkness today so we can live in the Kingdom of God where there is no darkness, no evil, no fear. Instead, there will only be light and right relationship and peace.

And yet, the power of darkness will still try to destroy us, to chip away at our faith in the Lord, and to compromise any witness or work we do for the Kingdom of God. The power of darkness will attack our integrity and our reputation. The power of darkness will attack our marriage and our children. The power of darkness will attack our financial security and our spiritual peace. The power of darkness will attack us in places where we are vulnerable and in ways we do not expect.

When those attacks come, we can remember Colossians 1:13-14 where Paul writes; “He (God the Father) has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

+Our Heavenly Father has rescued us from the power of darkness.

+Our Heavenly Father has transferred us into the Kingdom of God.

+Our Heavenly Father has redeemed us so He claims us as one of His children.

+Our Heavenly Father has forgiven us after we have yielded to the power of darkness.

When the power of darkness tried to destroy my relationship with Jesus as well as my calling as a spiritual leader, I called on Jesus. I petitioned and pleaded. I asked and appealed. I prayed and prayed and prayed.

+I asked the Holy Spirit to protect me from the power of darkness.

+I asked Jesus to forgive anything that was separating me from Him.

+I asked my Heavenly Father to rescue me from the power of darkness.

+I asked Jesus to shine His light on me so there was no room for the power of darkness.

+I asked my Heavenly Father to remind me I was one of His precious children.

+I asked Jesus to surround me with His presence and His power.

+I asked the Holy Spirit to fight off the power of darkness.

The power of darkness is persistent and powerful. There was some time pass before I could see the light of Jesus shining on me more than I felt the power of darkness attacking me. But, our Father in Heaven is faithful; He rescued me from the power of darkness!

And, our Father in Heaven will rescue you from the power of darkness. Jesus will be with you in every moment when you think you are about to be destroyed or diminished or disqualified by the power of darkness. The Holy Spirit will fill you with strength and courage and wisdom to resist the power of darkness.

When the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit fight for you and with you, your heart will be revived, your life will be rescued, and your soul will be filled with delight in the Lord God.
